Total cost is typically $25-$50 in fees plus 6.5% sales tax IF you bought the car within the last 30 days.

Cox vs Allo Fiber vs OzarksGo, which one?

Allo Fiber and OzarksGo (where their footprints reach) are genuinely better than Cox on every dimension that matters, symmetric speeds, lower prices, better service. Allo serves most of Bentonville, Centerton, and parts of Rogers; OzarksGo covers Fayetteville, Springdale, and Bella Vista. If you're in their footprints, sign up for Allo or OzarksGo before you sign up for anything else. Cox is the legacy cable option and is fine where fiber hasn't reached, but it's the second-choice option in most of the metro.

How do I find a doctor that takes my insurance?

Two-step. Look up your insurance plan's provider directory online and filter to NWA addresses (Bentonville / Fayetteville / Rogers / Springdale). Then check the Mercy / Washington Regional / Northwest Health network maps, most insurance contracts in NWA go through one of those three hospital systems. The Mexican panaderías and grocers in Springdale (Ayala's, Mi Tienda La Guadalupana, El Rio Food Market) carry the produce + meat + tortillas the chain stores don't. The Asian markets (Tang's in Springdale, Chia in Fayetteville) cover everything else. Most NWA households end up rotating across three of those by week three.

The NWA newcomer's first week.

You signed the lease, the moving truck is unloading, and the next seven days are full of logistics nobody told you about. Here's the actual day-1-through-day-7 list.

This is the practical-logistics complement to our main moving-to-NWA guide and the city-specific, with-kids, and remote-worker companions. Those tell you where to live and what life is like. This tells you what to do the week the truck arrives.

Order matters. The DMV appointment books two-to-three weeks out; the fiber install slots book a week out; the pediatrician waitlist runs four-to-eight weeks for established names. Set the long-lead-time appointments on day 1, then work the rest as time allows.

Day 1: the long-lead-time list

Two appointments to book before you do anything else:

AR DMV / local revenue office. You have 30 days to register an out-of-state car. The Office of Motor Vehicles + the county revenue offices typically book 2-3 weeks out. Search "Arkansas DMV <your county>", Benton County and Washington County have multiple revenue-office locations. Bring the title, out-of-state registration, AR insurance proof, current odometer, recent property-tax statement if applicable.
Internet install.Allo Fiber install slots book a week out; OzarksGo and Cox can be faster. Check both fiber providers' coverage maps for your address before defaulting to Cox.

Also on day 1: change your driver's license address, get renter's insurance written if your existing policy doesn't carry, and update your bank's mailing address.

Day 2, utilities + trash

Electric. SWEPCO covers most of NWA; Carroll Electric covers parts of Carroll and Madison counties. Your address tells you which.
Gas. Black Hills Energy (formerly Source Gas) covers most of NWA. Some homes are all-electric, check before assuming.
Water + sewer.City-run in each NWA city. Sign up through your city's utilities portal.
Trash + recycling. Bentonville and Rogers use Republic Services contracts; Fayetteville and Springdale run city-managed services. Signup is online; carts arrive within 5 business days; first pickup is the next normal route day.
Recycling-specific. Glass recycling is NOT curbside in most of NWA. The Boston Mountain Solid Waste District operates dropoff sites in Fayetteville and Bentonville for glass + electronics + hazardous waste. Worth knowing on day 2 if your move generated boxes of glass.

Day 3, internet, mail, registrations

Internet install completes (best case). If you booked fiber, the install is the most consequential hour of your first week, symmetric gigabit changes how everything else works.
USPS change of address. Online via usps.com, takes 7-10 days for forwarding to start.
Voter registration.Arkansas has a 30-day-before-election registration cutoff. Update via the Secretary of State's portal or in person at your county revenue office (you'll be there for the DMV anyway, knock both out).
Library card.Free, takes 5 minutes, and gives you access to the Fayetteville Public Library's extraordinary children's collection plus Bentonville Public Library's digital lending. Bring proof of residency (lease + utility bill).

Day 4, healthcare network

Two parallel tracks:

Insurance-network mapping.Look up your health insurance's provider directory and filter to NWA. Most plans contract through one of three hospital networks: Mercy (Northwest), Washington Regional, or Northwest Health. Pick the network that matches your insurance and look at primary-care providers under it.
Pediatrician (if applicable).Northwest Arkansas Pediatrics has multiple locations and is the volume default. Pilgrim's Pediatrics and Springdale Children's Clinic are the strongest independents. Arkansas Children's Northwest in Springdale is the regional children's hospital. Established practices run 4-8 week waitlists for new patients, get on a waitlist on day 4 even if you don't need a visit yet.

Also good to set up on day 4: dental (Wisener Cooper & Fergus in Rogers + Scott Stephens DDS in Fayetteville are two of the best-rated independents in NWA), optometry (most insurance has a separate vision panel, check VSP/EyeMed availability).

Day 5: the grocery decision

NWA grocery shopping is rarely a one-store routine; most households rotate three. Day 5 is for picking yours.

Harps Food Stores. The regional grocery chain, locally owned, HQ in Springdale, the everyday default for most NWA residents. Quality is consistently good; prices sit between Walmart and Whole Foods. Most cities have multiple locations.
Walmart Supercenter. Everywhere, the price floor for staples and household goods. Walmart Neighborhood Markets are the smaller-format option for quick trips.
Whole Foods Market. Rogers location; the organic + specialty + ready-to-heat option. Premium-priced; cleaner produce + the prepared-foods counter that beats every alternative.
Mexican panaderías + grocers.Springdale especially, Ayala's Panaderia, Mi Tienda La Guadalupana, El Rio Food Market, El Pueblo Market. These carry the produce + meat + masa + chiles + tortillas that the chain stores don't. If you cook real Mexican food at home, these are non-optional.
Asian markets.Tang's Asian Market (Springdale) is the regional anchor: the Korean / Vietnamese / Filipino / Chinese supply store NWA has been waiting for. Chia Mexican+Store in Fayetteville carries Latin and broader international.
Aldi. Several NWA locations now; the closeout-staples option that pairs well with Harps for the rest. Bring a quarter for the cart; bring your own bags.

Day 6, schools + camps + kid logistics

If you have school-age kids, day 6 is for setting up the actual logistics:

School registration.Each district has its own portal. Bentonville Public Schools, Fayetteville Public Schools, Springdale Schools, Rogers Public Schools. You'll need proof of residency (lease + utility), the student's birth certificate, immunization records, and the most recent transcript from the prior school. School-of-choice deadlines are typically July 1 for the following year, if you missed that, you're in your catchment school.
Childcare. See the with-kids guide for the full breakdown, waitlists run 6-18 months at the best centers; the Jones Center in Springdale runs subsidized childcare; Mother's Day Out programs through churches are widely used for part-time.
Activity sign-ups.Bentonville Parks & Rec and Fayetteville Parks & Rec both run season-based registration for swim, soccer, art, music, dance. Sign-up windows are easy to miss, check the rec departments' activity portals on day 6 and bookmark the calendar.
Pediatric dental.Bentonville Children's Dentistry and Bonnie Beavers in Fayetteville are the most- cited; book the first cleaning + x-rays for kids 3+.

Day 7, first-place rituals

By the end of week one most of the logistics are in motion. Day 7 is for the rituals that make NWA feel like home:

The Saturday market.Bentonville Farmers' Market on the Square (April-October) and Fayetteville Farmers' Market on the Square. Both are walkable, both run April through October, both are the social anchor of their cities' weekends. Show up by 9am for the best of everything.
Crystal Bridges. Free admission, two hours minimum, the closest thing NWA has to a non-negotiable first-week visit. The North Forest sculpture trail is the best free outdoor walk in the region.
A trail.Pick one based on where you landed: Slaughter Pen (Bentonville), Coler (Bentonville), Lake Fayetteville Loop (Fayetteville), Lake Atalanta (Rogers), Tanyard Creek (Bella Vista). Even if you're not a cyclist, walking your local trail head once on day 7 is the move that orients you.
One restaurant locals love. See our NWA 38 restaurant canon. Pick one in your city and go. The regional food scene is one of the things that makes NWA worth the move; week one is the right time to start.

Things that keep going past week one

Some logistics stretch beyond seven days:

Property tax assessment. Arkansas requires you to assess your personal property (cars + boats + trailers + business equipment) annually by May 31. First-year residents have a grace period but should still assess in their first month.
Vehicle inspection.Arkansas does NOT require annual inspections. Skip that if you're used to it from a prior state.
Severe weather signup.NWA tornado season runs March-May. Sign up for your county's emergency alerts (NotifyMe in Benton County, Smart911 in Washington County). Buy a NOAA Weather Radio for severe- weather backup. Identify your safe room.
The first hot-and-humid week. Adjust your outdoor cadence to early morning + late evening starting in early July. We have a heatmap for that.

The pragmatic close

Week one in NWA isn't glamorous. The DMV is the DMV; fiber install runs late; the school portal's password-reset email goes to spam. But the logistics here are genuinely manageable, there's no traffic during most of the day, the city offices answer the phone, and most service appointments happen within a week. Past day 7, the rest is the city teaching you how it works.
