This policy explains what information NWArkansas.com collects, how we use it, and the controls you have. It's written to be understandable. For a formal legal version or questions about a specific situation, consult a lawyer.

Information we collect

You give us directly

  • Account info: email, username, password (hashed), and anything you put in your profile.
  • Submitted content: reviews, forum posts, photos, event submissions, business claims.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: email address and subscription status.
  • Payment info: for paid subscriptions, Stripe handles card data. We receive only the transaction ID and last-four of the card.

Automatically collected

  • Analytics: page views, referring URL, approximate location, device type, and session duration — collected via Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used.
  • Logs: standard web-server logs (IP, user agent, timestamp) for security and debugging. Retained up to 90 days.
  • Cookies:session cookies (authentication), and analytics cookies (GA4). You can disable cookies in your browser; some site features won't work without session cookies.

How we use it

  • To run and improve the site.
  • To deliver the service you've asked for (newsletter, account, paid listing).
  • To communicate: transactional email (receipts, password resets) and marketing email if you've opted in.
  • To prevent fraud, abuse, and spam — including AI-assisted moderation of submitted content.
  • To comply with legal obligations (e.g., tax, subpoena, court order).

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share limited data with service providers who help us run the site:

  • Supabase (database, auth, storage) — processes account info and submitted content.
  • Vercel (hosting) — processes request logs.
  • Stripe (payments) — processes card data for paid services.
  • Beehiiv (newsletter) — processes subscriber email and preferences.
  • Google Analytics — anonymized/aggregated usage data.
  • Anthropic / OpenAI (AI model providers) — processes text for moderation and content drafting. User-submitted text sent for moderation is not retained for model training.

Your choices

  • Account: edit or delete your profile at any time from your account settings.
  • Newsletter: unsubscribe via the link at the bottom of every email.
  • Analytics: use a browser-level Do Not Track or an ad-blocker to prevent GA4. A consent banner is shown to EU and California visitors.
  • Right to access / delete (California & other states):email privacy@nwarkansas.com with your request. We verify identity before acting.

Children

The site isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

We use TLS for all traffic, hashed passwords, encrypted database backups, and access controls on our infrastructure. No system is perfect — if you notice a vulnerability, please report it to security@nwarkansas.com.

International visitors

We're based in the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the US.

Changes

We'll note any material update by changing the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, registered users will also be notified by email.
